Flower essences

flower essences

Introduced in the 1930s, Bach flower essences, also known as flower remedies, were devised by British physician Edward Bach to promote healing by purportedly treating negative emotions. Similar to homeopathic remedies, they derive from extreme dilutions of plant material made into tinctures. The best known may be Rescue Remedy, which combines five Bach flower essences and is promoted as a stress reliever. Other individual remedies may be selected based on the mood or state they are intended to treat.

Some people who are undergoing withdrawal from psychiatric drugs have found that using flower essences has helped ease symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia, though this is not true for everyone. Bach remedies usually come as tinctures containing alcohol, but tinctures made without alcohol are available as well.
