Artistic Contributor

Elizabeth Higgins is a Portland, Oregon artist who paints in a warehouse studio three blocks from the Willamette River and teaches youth art classes for various cultural organizations.  She was raised in Virginia and received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia, where she studied communications and art history. Her art is defined by bright, warm color and organic shapes.  Painting is playful and joyful to her, and these are the feelings she believes her art evokes. Art has been very important to Elizabeth’s own recovery from psychiatry, which began in December 2016 after two futile years of hospitalizations, medications, and shock therapy treatments. Dialectical Behavior Therapy saved her life, and today she is successfully managing her depression and anxiety without medication and psychiatrists.
